Office Cable Management Costs: What Shapes Your Quote?

Plan an office cable-management budget around desk quantities, equipment, containment, access and IT responsibilities.

Clearer desks. Better working days.

The number of desks is a starting point for an office cable-management quotation, not the whole specification. Two workstations can require very different work if one has a laptop and the other supports several monitors, docking equipment and moving furniture. A clear brief helps CODEEX distinguish an equipment tidy-up from a wider workplace installation and explain the relevant quotation factors.

Count workstations and describe the equipment

List the desks to be included and identify the equipment used at each one. Note monitors, docking stations, chargers, desktop computers and shared accessories. Photograph a representative desk from above and beneath, without including confidential screens or documents. Explain where equipment needs to stay and whether there are different desk types across the office. A quotation based on identical empty desks may not describe an occupied workplace with mixed setups. If the work is phased, show which desks belong in each phase rather than combining everything into an unexplained total.

Separate organisation from changes to the installation

Explain whether you want existing leads organised, new containment considered, equipment relocated or power and data provision changed. These requirements should not be bundled under the assumption that cable tidying includes electrical alterations or IT configuration. Identify who is responsible for deciding what may be disconnected and who will check the equipment afterwards. HSE guidance highlights trailing leads and damaged equipment as safety concerns; a neater appearance alone does not establish electrical safety. Report known concerns to the office so the appropriate specialist requirements can be considered in the scope.

Describe containment and furniture constraints

Tell CODEEX about existing trays, baskets, modesty panels, monitor arms and desk-mounted accessories. Include photographs of attachment areas and the desk model where available. A solution needs to work with the furniture and preserve the access your team requires later. Height-adjustable desks add movement to the brief, while shared desks may need different arrangements from fixed personal workstations. Do not purchase a large batch of trays solely from a photograph before compatibility has been considered. If appearance matters in a client-facing space, explain the desired finish at the quotation stage.

Identify access, sequencing and business disruption

An occupied office may need a different installation sequence from an empty room. State the hours when desks can be released, whether teams must remain operational and whether equipment access is controlled by an IT provider. Include loading arrangements, lift bookings, parking information and any building-management procedures. If you prefer an evening or weekend attendance, request it explicitly rather than assuming it is included in standard pricing. A small initial area can help clarify the approach, but any trial or phased attendance needs to be agreed as part of the proposal.

Check the quotation against your actual brief

Read the scope alongside the current CODEEX pricing information. Check desk quantities, included containment, equipment handling, materials and exclusions, and establish how VAT is shown. Ask what would require further approval if an unforeseen constraint is found. Avoid comparing an installation quote with a labour-only allowance as though they cover the same outcome. Keep a simple handover list for the completed areas and the people responsible for checking them. Send the office your desk count, photographs and access details to move from a broad budget idea to a proposal for your workplace.
